What is a moisture tester called?

A moisture tester is a device used to measure the moisture content of a material. It is also known as a hygrometer.

Moisture testers are used in a variety of applications, including:

  • Building inspection: to detect water damage and moisture intrusion
  • Environmental monitoring: to measure humidity levels
  • Industrial applications: to control moisture content in products
  • Agricultural applications: to measure soil moisture levels

Moisture testers can be used on a variety of materials, including wood, concrete, drywall, and soil.

Types of moisture testers

There are two main types of moisture testers:

  • Pin-type moisture testers: These testers have two pins that are inserted into the material being tested. The pins measure the electrical resistance of the material, which is proportional to its moisture content.
  • Capacitance-type moisture testers: These testers measure the capacitance between two plates that are placed on the surface of the material being tested. The capacitance is proportional to the moisture content of the material.

Pin-type moisture testers are more accurate than capacitance-type moisture testers, but they can only be used on materials that are not too thick. Capacitance-type moisture testers can be used on thicker materials, but they are not as accurate as pin-type moisture testers.

How to use a moisture tester

To use a moisture tester, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on the moisture tester.
  2. Select the appropriate setting for the material being tested.
  3. Place the moisture tester on the surface of the material being tested.
  4. Read the display on the moisture tester.

The display on the moisture tester will show the moisture content of the material being tested.
